This pixel array is designed as an open source project, in partnership with PEXEL. The idea is to create a modular system that anyone with access to a laser cutter can construct.
A more practical size for installations, however, is a larger solution. We refined the design making a version that is 40cm x 40cm so that it would be easier to install, once assembled. To-date, we have taught 3 workshops that utilize this kit design in Boston at The Robo Hub, Los Angeles at The LightHouse at the Brewery, and New York City at NYC Resistor.
TouchDesigner with RayTK Raymarching toolkit is used to create graphics for the displays. We use 12V controllers from Wasatch Pixels. Controllers are loaded with WLED, and we use it in passthrough mode. Each controller is assigned to 250 pixels, with a total of 500 pixels making up the array.
We are open to hosting this workshop for a group of 10 or more people at a flat rate, plus travel costs. The LightHouse is based in Los Angeles.
